The room was clean and well maintained. It appears to be family owned and managed.
Hotels in Santa Cruz are crazy expensive, but even so the Islander did not seem like great value for money. The room was tiny (though well maintained), and it was right on a busy street, and consists only of the rooms surrounding a bare parking lot, with dumpster. Breakfast, included, was the most pitiful offering I've seen yet. Coffee, honey Cheerios, and a few muffins cut into quarters. The Islander will do for a one-night stopover if everything else in Santa Cruz is too far out of town or too expensive.
Price, bed, location, clean, fresh coffee, muffins and very nice owners. No frills motel with a great Italian restaurant across the street and a mile from the beach.
Clean but not a 3 or 4 star
The motel is very clean, bed/pillows very comfortable. The staff are very courteous and helpful. Location good, rate awesome! The room has a small refridgerator and microwave. Continental breakfast was coffee, juice, cereal and muffins-more than adequate.
There was hair in the bathroom and on the shower curtain when I arrived.
Air conditioner in room.
Breakfast was minimal. Empty OJ, coffee and toast and cereal.
We liked that we were only there for one night.
Innkeeper grouchy and very stingy with coffee. Coffeepot supplied upon request, but the man grudgingly parceled out two scoops when asked for some. It wasn't enough for even one decent cup apiece and we went out and bought our own can. (We joked that if we needed more Kleenex, "Mr. Friendly" would probably grump and issue us two tissues only.) Also didn't appreciate innkeeper's young son's scolding manner about my smoking -- outside. Facilities adequate, but way overpriced for what it was, where it was. Next night, at same price, we stayed at Quality Inn, Marina, practically by the beach and with very friendly service. I'd recommend that one and we'd stay there again for sure.
The room was clean, the hotel was in a good location (close to the beach), and the price was fair for the area.
It was on a busy street and there was a lot of traffic that you could hear through the crack in the door and the walls. Also, the bathroom was very outdated (especially the tub) and there wasn't a good selection for the free breakfast.
Nice cheap place to stay.
Include Breakfast, but have to get at the counter and eat it in our Room.
A very affordable hotel, very clean and well-maintained. The owners/staff are quite nice and friendly. It was very easy to walk anywhere I needed. Great grocery stores and restaurants nearby, and easy walk to downtown.
The staff was nice and the room was clean but it is very much a budget motel.
The room was tiny. Breakfast consisted of 2 kinds of bread, 2 kinds of cereal, and orange juice. It is not near the boardwalk, the beach or downtown
The customer service was pretty good and they wanted to ensure that I was fully satisfied with my room. For the price and location it was nice place to stay and rest for awhile.
Nothing to really complain about. I'd stay here again on my next trip to Santa Cruz
hotel was pretty close (driving distance) to attractions. the evening staff gave us extra blankets. the fridge was a nice amenity.
The male staff guy was less than hospitable or welcoming. The pool did not feel heated. the breakfast was fair.
Pleasant and helpful staff.
Room was older, and let in most of the street noise.
The cleanliness of the room and the hotel staff/owners who were extremely nice.
les draps etaient laves mais encore taches. Le petit dejeuner est tres simple
